About this course
The Maternal and Child Health course covers two key areas: maternal health and child health.
The maternal health component provides practical strategies for promoting a healthy pregnancy and managing common conditions during pregnancy. It also covers tips on delivery preparation, essential postpartum care for the mother, as well as the immediate care of the newborn.
The segment on child health explores the various stages of childhood development, recommended vaccination schedules, and common childhood conditions such as asthma. In addition, the course highlights important aspects of child safety to support the overall health and well-being of children.
What you will learn
- Advise clients on practical strategies for pre-conception care.
- Describe the symptoms of the conditions commonly encountered in pregnancy and how to manage them.
- List the items to be packed in a delivery bag and suggest tips on how to prepare older children for the new baby.
- Explain how to manage conditions, diet, nutrition and mental well-being post-partum, as well as family planning.
- Describe what to look out for and how to manage a newborn.
- Recall the different types of feeding and their corresponding use cases and beneftis.
- Explain the approaches to fostering child growth and development.
- Describe the purpose of the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule and health booklet.
- Explain what is asthma, how it is triggered, what they sypmtoms are and how it can be managed.
- Identify common conditions in children such as fever, rashes, abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomitting.
- Recognise the types of injuries sustained in childhood and how to prevent them.
